Planeetta: SPF setup

Before you start

Planeetta's guides are in Finnish. This guide gives the names of screens and buttons as those guides write them, with a translation in brackets.

Planeetta's guides explain how to add and change DNS records, the SPF record among them. They describe no DKIM or DMARC settings, and they give no SPF value for Planeetta's own mail servers. So this guide covers the DNS steps only.

Every Planeetta web hosting package includes name service for its domains. A domain order on its own does not. For that, Planeetta asks you to order its name server service or add the domain to an existing web hosting package.

Planeetta has DNS guides for two control panels. The cPanel guide dates from 2020. The other, filed under WePanel on Planeetta's site, dates from August 2026. Follow the guide for the panel you see.

To open cPanel, sign in to Planeetta's customer pages and choose Palvelusi (Your services) on the left. Choose the service and click hallitse tuotetta (manage product). In the service view, choose Kirjaudu cPanel-ohjelmistoon (Log in to cPanel) under Toiminnot (Actions) on the left.

SPF

Planeetta's WePanel guide says the SPF record for email is added as a TXT record. A domain may have several TXT records, but only one SPF record. If example.com already has an SPF record, change it instead of adding a second.

Planeetta's guides give no SPF value for its own mail servers. Planeetta's customer service is at asiakaspalvelu@planeetta.fi.

Following the cPanel guide:

1. Open DNS-tietueiden hallinta (DNS record management) and choose Hallinta (Manage).
2. To change a record, choose Muokkaa (Edit) next to it and enter the new value.
3. To add a record, choose its type from the Tietueen lisääminen (Add record) menu. The Nimi (Name) field cannot be empty. Enter at least your domain, with a dot at the end (example.com.). The TTL is 3600 seconds, one hour, by default.

Planeetta says a change takes effect in about an hour.

Following the WePanel guide:

1. In the Verkkotunnukset (Domains) section, choose DNS-vyöhykkeen muokkaus (DNS zone editing), then example.com.
2. To change a record, click the button at its right edge and choose Muokkaa DNS-tietuetta (Edit DNS record). Save with Päivitä DNS-tietue (Update DNS record).
3. To add a record, click Lisää DNS-tietue (Add DNS record) and choose its type under Tyyppi (Type). In the Nimi field, @ stands for your domain alone.

Planeetta's WePanel guide says changes can take a few hours.

Planeetta warns that a wrong record can stop your email or your website from working.

Check it worked

1. Wait for the change to take effect. Planeetta's guides say about an hour in cPanel and a few hours in WePanel.
2. Press Check now on Mailmoni's DNS tab. The SPF card shows no problem.
3. Most mailbox providers send one report a day. Reports from the next 24 to 48 hours show the new SPF results.
