An export is already being built

HTTP status 409

This organization already has an export being built. Start the next one when it is ready.

Either a download asked for an export that is not ready yet, or a new export was asked for while another export of the organization is still being built. Wait until the running export's status is ready, then go on.

Why you get it

Two requests answer with this code:

• Starting an export (POST /api/v1/exports) while another export of the organization is waiting or being built. The organization builds one export at a time, of any kind, and that includes one a member started in the app.
• Downloading an export (GET /api/v1/exports/<id>/download) before it is ready.

Starting an export needs a plan from Teams up and a token with write access. Reading an export's status and downloading it need only read access.

An export that has waited or been building for more than 6 hours no longer holds up a new one.

What to do

1. Ask for the export's status with GET /api/v1/exports/<id>. Starting an export answers with that address in its Location header.
2. Ask again until the status is ready, then download it. A status of failed means the export has no file.
3. Then start the next export. If that still answers with this code, another export of the organization is running, perhaps one started in the app. Wait for it and try again.

On Teams and above, a webhook endpoint that subscribes to export.ready is told when an export started through the API is ready, so a script can wait for that event instead of asking.
