Concepts
These pages explain the product's own ideas. Each one says what the word means on screen and where the numbers come from.
- What is a source, and how do you know which service it is?
A source is a named sending service or a group of addresses. How we match each address to a service, what "probably" means, and what to do with the rest.
- Why does a source fail DMARC, and what does its sentence mean?
Each source gets a sentence on what its mail does and why, and an action when something needs fixing. Every case, the statuses and whose count wins.
- SPF passed. Why is it not aligned?
SPF or DKIM can pass for a domain that is not yours. DMARC counts only a pass for your From domain. How we decide alignment and where the product shows it.
- What is my reporting address, and is it safe to publish?
Each domain gets its own address for reports. What it takes and refuses, why your DNS needs no extra record, and how to keep another service's address.
- Where are my reports, and who can see them?
Where your reports are stored and backed up, who in your organization and outside it can see them, and which of our pages set the rules that bind us.
- When is my domain ready for p=reject?
The rule that says a domain is ready for its next DMARC policy step, the states the page shows, the policy ladder and the thresholds you can change.
- Which reports will I get, and from whom?
Aggregate, forensic and TLS reports: who sends each, what it holds, where it shows in the product, the files we accept and the limits on one message.
- How long do you keep my reports?
Your plan sets how far back you can see: from 30 days on Starter to 37 months on Enterprise. What goes each night, and what stays longer.
- Do I add subdomains separately?
No. Subdomains named in your domain's reports are listed under it by themselves. They need no verifying and do not count toward your plan's domains.
- What can a viewer do, and what needs an admin?
Each member is an admin or a viewer. A viewer reads every domain screen and can run a check. Domains, members, the plan and alerts need an admin.
- Which plan has what I need?
From Starter, which is free and never expires, to Enterprise: the prices, what every plan has, where each feature starts, and every limit.
- What will alert me, when, and how often?
Every kind of alert with what sets it off and which plans have it, when we check, which alerts stay quiet, and how often each member gets an alert email.
- What do you check in DNS, and what does a finding mean?
The DNS records we check and how often on each plan, how SPF lookups and DKIM selectors are counted, and every finding a check can report, with its fix.
