Troubleshooting

Alert or summary emails do not arrive

On every plan

Start on the Alerts page. It lists every alert, including the ones we did not email, and says why when we held one back on purpose. The reasons below cover the rest, in the order to check them.

Your own settings

Each member chooses for themselves, under Settings on the Notifications page.

  • Admins start with alert email on. Viewers start with it off, and turn it on there.
  • Alert emails and summaries are two separate lists, and each email has an unsubscribe link for its own list. The link opens a page that asks you to confirm before anything stops. The unsubscribe button your mailbox provider shows beside the email has no such step: one press stops that list at once. Either way, only that list stops, and only for that organization. The Notifications page turns it back on.

The plan's pace

When an alert opens, we wait at least 10 minutes before emailing it, so that alerts that come together arrive in one email. After that, alert emails to one member go out no more often than this:

  • Starter: one alert email a week
  • Pro: one alert email a day
  • Teams: one alert email an hour
  • Enterprise: one alert email an hour

Alerts that wait for the next email are not lost. They go out together in it.

On Starter, these alerts can email you: DNS error, DNS record changed, DKIM key missing and Reports stopped. The others start on Pro.

Quiet on purpose

  • The first time we check a domain for alerts, we note what we find and email nothing. That is the starting point, not news.
  • For 7 days after a domain's first report, these alerts stay quiet, because all of it is new: New source, Drop in the pass rate, TLS failures, and Forensic reports if it is on.
  • An alert that clears before its email goes out is not emailed. It stays on the Alerts page.
  • An alert turned off on the domain's Alerts page sends nothing. The Forensic reports alert starts off on every domain. An admin turns it on there, from the Pro plan up.
  • Alerts and summaries cover verified domains only. Removed and archived domains get neither.

Summaries

  • Summaries by email start on Pro. On a plan without them, the choice is not offered.
  • A summary choice the plan does not include counts as off. We keep it, and it comes back when the organization moves to a plan that includes it.
  • The organization needs at least one verified domain.
  • A summary goes out from 08:00 on the day it is due: every day for a daily one, Mondays for a weekly one, and the first day of the month for a monthly one. The time is in the time zone set on your Profile page. When a summary is due, the Notifications page says when.
  • If building a summary fails, we do not send it again for that period. The next summary covers the next period.

Still missing

Look in the spam folder too. If the email is not there, write to support with the time it should have come and the address it should have gone to.

For a chat channel, an admin finds its delivery log through the Notifications page.
