Remove a domain you no longer use

On every plan

An admin removes a domain with Remove domain, at the bottom of the domain's main page (Home in the domain's menu), and types the domain name to confirm. Its reporting address refuses reports within minutes of the removal. 30 days later, we delete its reports, records and raw files.

Before you remove it

The domain's pages go away as soon as you remove it. If you want to keep its reports, export them first.

Remove it

  1. Open the domain. Its main page, Home in the domain's menu, has Remove domain at the bottom. Only admins see it.
  2. Type the domain name exactly as it is shown.
  3. Select Remove domain.

What happens at once

  • The domain and its subdomains leave your list of domains.
  • Within minutes, its reporting address refuses every report sent to it.
  • Its open alerts close, without a message saying they cleared.
  • It no longer counts toward your plan's domains.
  • Its share link, if it has one, stops working.

30 days after the removal, we delete the domain's reports, records and raw files. Backups that still hold them are replaced within a further 30 days.

Change its DNS records

Removing the domain here changes nothing in its DNS. Take our reporting address out of the domain's DMARC record (the rua= tag, and ruf= if it is there) and out of its TLS-RPT record. Otherwise mailbox providers keep sending reports to an address that refuses them. Keep the rest of the DMARC record: its policy works without a reporting address. If another tool will read the reports, put its address there instead.

Adding it again later

If you add the domain again, it starts from nothing, even within the 30 days. Whatever was left of the old one is deleted at once. The domain needs verifying again, it gets a new reporting address, and its history starts empty. Publish the new address in its DNS records, as you did the first time.
