What happens when you move to a lower plan
On every plan
When your organization moves to a lower plan, or a paid plan ends, the features the lower plan lacks stop that day. Domains, members and your history stay for 14 days. Then the lower plan's limits apply: domains above them are archived, members above them lose access, and older reports are deleted. You choose what stays, and moving back before then loses nothing.
The day the plan changes
- Features the lower plan does not include stop at once. Every admin gets an email that lists each change with the lower plan's numbers, and the Plan and billing page shows the same list.
- Open alerts of kinds the lower plan does not cover close, without a message to anyone.
- Every domain keeps receiving reports, and every member keeps access.
- The history of the plan you left stays, so no older reports are deleted yet.
What is paused, not deleted
API tokens, webhook endpoints, shared alert channels, share links and relays that the lower plan does not include are kept. They work again, unchanged, when the organization is on a plan that has them. Until then, paused channels receive nothing, and visitors to a paused share link see a paused page.
Where the lower plan allows fewer API tokens or webhook endpoints, the newest ones pause first.
Choose what stays
When the organization has more domains or members than the lower plan allows, the Plan and billing page asks which domain and which member to keep. Choose, then select Save choices. You can change your choice until the 14 days are over.
Domains are archived only when the lower plan has a fixed number of them, as Starter has: 1 domain. If you do not choose, we keep the oldest verified domain, or the oldest domain when none is verified.
Members are kept in this order: the one you choose, then the longest-standing admins, then the longest-standing members. If you do not choose, the longest-standing admin comes first. The member you keep becomes an admin if they are not one already.
When the time is up
After 14 days, the lower plan's limits apply:
- Domains above the plan's number are archived. Report mail to an archived domain is refused.
- Members above the plan's number lose access, and we email each of them. When members are removed, open invitations are withdrawn too.
- History shrinks to the lower plan's window. A nightly job deletes the older reports within a day.
Emails you get
Every admin gets an email on each of these days:
- the day the plan changes, with what changed and what happens when the time is up;
- 3 days before the time is up, as a reminder;
- the day the limits apply, with what was archived, who was removed and how much history is left.
If the organization is back on the plan it left by then, the reminder is not sent.
Go back
Moving back to the plan you left, or a higher one, before the 14 days are over loses nothing. An admin does it under Settings › Plan and billing:
- If the paid plan ended, choose it again under Choose a paid plan and pay. A new period starts on the day you pay. Buy a paid plan has the steps.
- If you moved from one paid plan to a lower one, use the higher plan's button under Change or cancel. The move takes effect at once, and your next payment adds the difference for the rest of the period. See Move to a higher plan.
- If the page offers neither, because our staff set your plan, write to support.
Later, once the plan has room for it, an admin can bring back an archived domain with Restore domain on the Plan and billing page. Reports deleted by then do not come back. Members who lost access can be invited again.
